Today Reese had a very big day. At 5:15 this morning, we were on our way to the Doctor's Surgical Center for her to have tubes put in her ears. She obviously didn't know this so all went well for most of the morning. She wasn't allowed to eat anything prior to surgery so by the time they came to get her at 7 am, she was throwing a major fit. They took her from us (which caused me to start crying) and escorted Jason and I to the waiting area. In less than 10 minutes, the doctor came out to tell us everything went fine. A few minutes later, we were taken to recovery where she was impatiently waiting for us. She wasn't really awake yet when we got there. However, even in her grogginess, she was very mad and letting the world know it. She had to drink some liquids before we could leave and for once, she refused the bottle. The nurse (having done this once or twice) thought a cheery icee popsicle might do the trick. Jason forced the spoon in her mouth when she was screaming and like magic, she opened her eyes and stopped crying. She ate the entire popsicle! After that, she drank three ounces of water and we were ready to go.
Her hearing had been muffled due to fluid that she could not drain herself. This afternoon, she sat clapping and laughing at herself for 5 minutes non-stop. Her little hands make such a soft noise when they clap. We aren't sure she had really heard it before.
It was a very trying day for all of us but we are hopeful that this helps her in the long run. We go back for a follow up on January 20th. We'll keep you posted on the progress.
